Mandarin Oriental Spa
The Miami Spa was challenged by its early success and too much guest congestion at the front desk, so we decided to design a separate check-in and check-out area.
We re-located check-out within a new retail boutique space, spatially separated yet visually connected to the check-in area, enhancing both guest experiences. The guest’s journey begins at the front desk, where a curved golden mosaic wall cradles the new reception desk, welcoming visitors in a warm embrace. The desk is composed of stacked wood and local stone.
A peaceful new relaxation area was also designed with ergonomic loungers, separating guests with sheer drapery dividers. The veiling provides visual privacy and directs one’s view to a calming water feature beyond.
The loungers were specifically curved to the natural contours of the reclining human body, and countless prototypes were tested and vetted before arriving at the perfect ergonomic fit. We also re-designed the steam, sauna and changing area while mitigating moisture issues with advanced water-tight technology.
The guest departure is pure subliminal seduction, and now, guests glide into a sensuous boutique that cocoons them within a casual, interactive environment.
This convivial environment of warm zebra wood encourages guests to try and sample skin-care products with the assistance of a dedicated beauty concierge, who reviews their guest experience and shares wellness advice.
Not only has our design mitigated the Spa Mandarin Oriental Miami‘ congested front desk, yet it has smoothed out the whole guest procession, providing a more fluid experience while increasing retail revenue year over year. This sequencing prompts guests to take the spa experience home with them.
Now every time they take a candle-lit, lavender-infused bath, they are reminded of their afternoon at the Spa Mandarin Oriental Miami.
