2+1 Residential Loft
New York City
2+1 integrates a couple’s newborn son within a residential loft at the Hotel des Artistes. The design focused on three discrete areas that are individually inspired, but collectively shared.
Dad’s surfboard inspired a hand-carved piece of knotted driftwood, which formed the perfect breakfast table.
The baby’s sunken playpen, with built-in toy storage by day, doubles as an intimate dining space for two by evening, when a tea table hinges down from cabinetry within the two-story space.
Mom’s “highchair,” a steel chaise profiled to her proportions allows for a moment of contemplation and relaxation.
Bamboo stalks are recessed into a sunken planter providing a miniature forest for their son, while cleansing the air.
Innovative, multi-purpose design combined with natural materials of teak millwork, slate and walnut floors, and natural cotton fabrics enhances this young family’s well-being.
